Planting Intentions by the Power of the New Moon

Today’s New Moon comes at a powerful time. Beltane is on Monday, and these two combine making this a very powerful time for setting intentions for the coming months of growing & harvesting.

Spring is, of course, the time for planting your garden. The ground is alive and rich. The rain is nourishing. The sun is bright & warm. The Earth is fertile and life is flourishing.

Spring is the time of life coming into being. Things that were stirring in winter’s darkness are now being born – animals are having babies, shrubs are returning to life, bulbs have bloomed. The dark world of spirit turns into matter in the spring. Dreams become tangible.

Now is a powerful time of year to put a voice to desires that have been stirring in the darkness inside of you.

What do you want to bring to life? What do you want to grow? What do you hope to harvest?

Just like we are planting seeds in our gardens right now, this is an ideal time to plant the dreams & intentions you want to grow in your life; and watch them sprout & bloom in the warming sunshine.

“Intention is the starting point of every dream. It is the creative power that fulfills all of our needs … Everything that happens in the Universe begins with intention.”
-Deepak Chopra

This week we are able to combine the power of spring’s new life & growth, with the powerful new beginnings inherent with the New Moon. Here is a gorgeous exercise to harness the power of the New Moon & begin to give life to our new intentions for spring.

New Moon Dream Writing Exercise

1. Begin by lighting a purple candle.

Purple has the energetic qualities of awareness, understanding, and higher power. All wonderful for connecting with your inner voice.

2. Ground & Center

Take several deep breaths to ground & center yourself. A simple way to do this is to breathe in for a count of 5 & slowly breathe out for a count of 5.

3. What do you wish for in the coming months?

When you’re ready ask yourself, “What do I wish for in the coming months?”

Begin writing your thoughts immediately. Don’t pause to think, just start writing. For 15 minutes write everything you wish for the coming months – what do you want to grow? Harvest? Accomplish? What do you want to do this summer? Write everything you can think of.

4. Review what you wrote.

Review everything you wrote & pick your top 3-5 hopes/goals for the coming months.

Spend at least 5 minutes on each goal & write about what your life will look like when you accomplish or receive it. Be very specific – what will it feel like, how will you know you’ve reached your goal?

Write these things as though you’ve already received them, as though your life already looks the way you envision.

5. Read what you’ve written.

When you are finished with each goal you selected, read out loud what you’ve written. By reading your visions out loud you are sending your intentions to the New Moon.

You’re sending these hopes out into the world & the Universe is aligning to deliver them to you.

6. Om Namo Narayani

Lastly, repeat this mantra as many times as feels appropriate: “Om Namo Narayani”

In sanskrit this means, “I surrender to the Divine Mother.” You are surrendering your hopes to the Divine Mother & she will deliver them to you in whatever way serves your greatest good.

7. Extinguish your candle.
